What does it mean for us to remain or abide in Jesus? We are to do as He commands, we are to obey. He informs us to love one another. Jesus, who is love incarnate, yet He was exasperated with His disciples. Jesus tells us what our role is in this passage. He exclaims that He is the tree and we are the branches. As branches we cannot bear fruit if we are apart from Him. If we want to live a supernatural life, we need to do as Jesus said and what He did. We must obey what He tells us, not what we think might bring God glory. If we walk in obedience to God, there will be things that make us sad or anger, however our lives will be characterized by love, joy, peace, and the rest of the fruit of the Spirit. We are to love each other as Jesus has loved us. We cannot be selfish in the everyday things but then say that if something big happens we will lay our lives down. No, we need to lay our lives down for even the smallest things. If we are to love, it is impossible to live that way, unless we love Him. Our days should be started by crying out to God in the mornings and asking God to fill us with His Spirit and live His life through us. Fruit that remains will be the ultimate thing that remains. Jesus said that we are to abide in Him, that means do what He says, we are to love one another.
